The small, picturesque town of Danbury, some 55 miles north of New York City, is a great place to start exploring Connecticut and New England. The city has many historical landmarks, more than a few attractions, and you can have a short and eventful holiday. The best time to visit is between April and October when the weather becomes warmer. Unfortunately, winters are harsh, cold, and with substantial snowfall.

For guests that look for recreational activities, Danbury has a great Richter Park Golf Course. It is an 18 holes course with many challenges and a lovely clubhouse. Monster Mini Golf is also an 18 -hole golf course, but for less serious players that only search for a fun afternoon.

Hiking near Danbury CT 

Danbury is located near Candlewood Lake, and it is on the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, so it offers numerous outdoor activities. Bear Mountain Reservation, north of the city, you can find ten hiking trails, and the most popular one is 1.7 miles long red trail. The Orange trail is steeper, but you will go to Candlewood Lake. 

Speaking of the lake, The Squantz Pond State Park is on the western shores of the human-made reservoir that attracts enormous crowds in the summer months. Besides water sports and picnic areas, the park by the lake has walking trails. In addition, you can hike to the Pootatuck State Forest.

Wooster Mountain State Park is within the city limits, and it’s famous as a hunting ground with a busy shooting lane. However, you can also catch great hiking trails like Ives Trails and Greenway.

For a small town, Danbury has some great accommodation options. Among the best-rated hotels is Hotel Zero Degrees, with lounges, business areas, and recreational zones. In addition, the hotel has numerous amenities like a shuttle bus service, organized children’s activities, and a fitness center.

A couple of minutes from Candlewood Lake, you can find La Quinta Inn & Suites with stellar reviews on social media pages. However, with Danbury being on the crossroads towards Boston, Cape Cod, and Canada, finding rooms in the high season could be challenging.

Danbury lies north of New York and southwest of Boston in Connecticut. Nearby lake, and hilly terrain with numerous historical landmarks in the city, make Dunbury a great place to visit and stay for a couple of days when travelling through the region.
